Motiongate Park Dubai

DUBAI PARKS AND RESORTS : Motiongate…100 photos from world’s newest theme park!

Motiongate park Dubai is warming up for its grand opening on Dec 16th and Travellerczech is bringing you great bunch of photos and all the info you need to know from world’s newest theme park.

Motiongate Dubai welcomes Hollywood to the Middle East with 27 rides based on movies such as Shrek, Hunger Games, Kung Fu Panda, Green Hornet or Underworld.

I would like to share with you my experience and I hope you will find my post enjoyable and informative. All the descriptions and points below are based on my personal views as a regular global theme park visitor and compared with the biggest competitors in the industry…enjoy  responsibly ! 🙂

motiongate-theme-park-dubai-img_5982
Entrance to the theme park

Motiongate is joining LEGOLAND Dubai, Bollywood Park & LEGOLAND Waterpark creating unique destination connected by entertaining zone called Riverland with Polynesian themed Lapita hotel.

By 2020, there will be 4 waterparks and 7 theme parks between Dubai and Abu Dhabi so expectations are running high!

motiongate-theme-park-dubai
Full of details, fun and colours…

Park itself is a bit of a walk through Riverland, but the main gate looks epic and really sets up the mood together with the movie songs playing in the background.

You cannot walk from one part of the park to another without seeing a street show, take a snap with movie characters or experience some excitement!

” Riverland photos – CLICK HERE”

Motiongate is definitely the best park from all four, inside Dubai Parks and Resorts (DPR).

Great theming, nice atmosphere and plenty of details to get immersed into the world of movies…still tons of work to do, but so much potential.

Only few rides were open during my visit and you can read my opinion about them below.

After entering, the Studio Central ( main street ) takes you to 4 different zones.

  1. Lionsgate
  • Step Up Dubai ! All in – musical show
  • Panem Aerial Tour – 3D flight simulator ( opening early 2017 )
  • Capitol Bullet Train – launched coaster ( opening early 2017 )

  • 2. Smurf’s Village (rides closed during my visit / under construction)
  • Smurfberry Factory – interactive kids area
  • Woodland Play Park – obstacles
  • Smurf Village Express – baby rollercoaster
  • Studio tour – dark ride
  • Smurf Village Playhouse

Entrance to beautifully themed Surfs Village

  1.  Dreamworks (closed during my visit / under construction)
  • Kung Fu Panda : Unstoppable Awesomeness – 4D simulator
  • Melman Go Round – carrousel
  • Penguin Air – rotating aircrafts
  • Madagascar Mad Pursuit – indoor speed coaster
  • The Swinging Viking – spinning boat
  • Shrek’s Merry Fairy Tale Journey – Puppet Show
  • Dragon Gliders – suspended family coaster
  • Swamp Celebration – spin ride
  • Kung Fu Academy stage show
  • Mr. Fling’s Noodles Fling – tea cups style ride
motiongate-theme-park-dubai
Dreamworks Indoor Zone

  1.  Sony Picture Studio ( some rides open during my visit )
  • Green Hornet High Speed Chase – rollercoaster
  • Ghostbusters Battle for New York – laser shooting dark ride
  • Zombie Blast Off – drop tower
  • Hotel Transylvania – family dark ride
  • Underworld 4D – movie show
  • Cloudy with a chance of Meatballs river adventure – water raft ride
  • Flint’s Imagination Lab – kids playground
motiongate-theme-park-dubai-img_6040
Entrance to Sony Pictures Studio … letters coming soon
  • Green Hornet High Speed Chase  – well…not high speed at all, not even one moment of excitement for me. I would love to see Enchanted Airways (USS), or Flight of the Hippogriff (USO) quality. Queue is nice though.

  • Hotel Transylvania ( closed during my visit ) – just beautiful and great perspective makes the castle look much bigger then it is. Can’t wait to experience the dark ride!
  • Zombie Blast Off – classic drop tower, but nicely themed…
  • Ghostbuster : Battle for New York – I don’t want to be bad, but I was really expecting action packed and highly entertaining ride similar to Transformers, or Spiderman 3D in Universal Parks. Unfortunately, this is a laser-gun-ghost-on-the-screen-shooting-boredom. Such a wasted opportunity, the vehicle system looks impressive, theming also but laser guns and projections, such a let down…
  • Cloudy with a chance of meatballs – this wet and wild raft adventure is still under construction.
  • Underworld 4D – great queuing area and pre-show with lightning. The 3D effects are really strong, sharp and scary…maybe they shouldn’t be allowing small kids inside, as the movie has to be stopped to let the freaked out little ones out. Not enough 4D tricks. The movie would be better just with the glasses as the moving seats, water or air are just distracting. Also, didn’t get the story and there isn’t proper beginning or end to it. Feels random.

FOOD :

Restaurants and kiosk is plenty. All the interiors look really good, with quality finish and helpful staff.

Food variety is now limited to Pizza, Pasta, Burgers and Hot Dogs but soon, there will be a-la-carte restaurant. As you would except from a theme park, prices aren’t cheap and the burger I bought, was very small.

  • SHOPPING :

Selection and variety of branded character merchandise is great. The offering is more impressive than Tokyo Disneyland I have visited few weeks ago.  Watch your wallet 🙂

  • FACILITIES
  • washrooms
  • water fountains
  • full body/clothes drying capsules
  • strollers parking areas / rental
  • lockers
  • guest services office
  • currency exchange / ATM
  • Baby care room
  • Photo collection
  • First Aid

  • 10 FUN FACTS :
  1. 1,9m sq.ft of park ( planned 4m for expansion )
  2. 21 from 27 rides are indoors
  3. 120 live shows / day
  4. 13 Hollywood blockbusters inspired rides
  5. 3170 seats for all rides and attractions in the park
  6. 1000 seats at Motiongate theatre
  7. 595 palm trees in the park
  8. 32m height of the tallest point on the Capitol Bullet Train coaster
  9. 5 rollercoasters ( only 1 big one though )
  10. 9 restaurants inside the park

Dubai Parks and Resorts

DUBAI PARKS & RESORTS : Riverland’s French Village at night !

Dubai Parks and Resorts ( DPR ) are getting ready for next month opening of its third theme park … the Hollywood inspired Motiongate, but Riverland is open and “ready for business”!

Riverland represents dining and entertainment heart of the Parks. It is connecting Bollywood Park, Legoland, Lego Water Park and Motiongate Park, which will open on the December 16th.

This area itself is divided into 4 Zones:

  • Boardwalk
  • Peninsula
  • India Gate
  • French Village

The most finished and athmosperic is definitely the 1600’s inspired French Village, based on a real town of Annecy…alpine town of southeast France, so let’s take a walk

The best time to visit is during sunset. The twilight gives you the right ambience for photos and also, the entire area becomes very athmosperic and almost feel like you travelled back in time.

Why almost ? Well…I know, its easy to judge and criticise, but if DPR wants to truly introduce a world class entertainment destination, they have to improve more then just a few details…

  • the pavements have terrible finish ( in the entire complex )
  • music plays 5 songs in a loop and should be different play-list for each zone
  • water is dirty with debris and rubbish floating around
  • everything is covered by dust ( even easy to clean areas )
  • there has to be much more details on the buildings ( laundry ropes, metal details, flower pods, etc )
  • Mcdonalds, Starbucks and Boots pharmacy just don’t work for me in an old french village.
  • when acrobats, or contortionists performs, there isn’t any special atmosphere, no music..it needs a host, who warms up the crowd and make them feel like they are going to see something special.

I may be hard with my critics, but I really want this place to be as best as possible and come back again and again to feel the magic. The competition is increasing and visitors will soon have even bigger selection of parks and attractions to choose from, while visiting the UAE!

  • Riverland is free to visit, but you have pay for parking Aed50 ( USD 14 ) .

(For comparison … Disney Springs in Orlando carpark is complimentary , but Universal charges USD 20)

DUBAI PARKS & RESORTS : Walk around Riverland Dubai + Hunger Games Rollercoaster

Riverland Dubai is officially opening on the 31st of October, but Travellerczech can’t just sit home and wait.

Instead, I did have a pretty nosey look around Riverland – new dining and entertaining area connecting 3 theme parks, waterpark, luxury hotel and shopping village.

All areas are currently in its final stages of construction and first of them – Legoland Dubai will open on the same day as Riverland!

“See the biggest Legoland Dubai photo update HERE “

The Peninsula

Riverland has been divided into four main zones:

  • India Gateclose to Bollywood Park entrance plaza, which is designed in 1930s India style.

Bollywood park actually looks like a good fun, I like the colours and buildings peaking out from behind of the Main gate. Also, I am sure, the theatrical Raj-Mahal theatre show will be dazzling.

riverland-dubai-parks-and-resorts-img_4558
India Gate

  • French Village : near Legoland Park, is inspired by 16th century French town of Annecy.

The paving was uncomfortable to walk on and Italian restaurant, McDonalds and Starbucks somehow doesn’t fit in to French medieval town vibe…but that’s just me.

riverland-dubai-parks-and-resorts-img_4576
The mill wheel in the french village is already spinning

  • Peninsula : inspired by America in the 1950s is not accessible yet as it is on “island” next to the Lapita hotel. Licensed restaurants will be based here.
riverland-dubai-parks-and-resorts
Peninsula area across the 50m wide river

  • The Boardwalk : a live concerts and festivals zone along the river with still empty buildings feels a bit soul-less.

I hope, with the opening of F&B outlets and shops, music and lights, this area will become alive.

riverland-dubai-parks-and-resorts-img_4525
This area need music, live and fun

A 1km-long river runs through all four zones, which has boats for a river cruises.

Also some of the restaurants will have an alcohol license ( located in the Peninsula zone ) ,there will be bank, spa, food carts and live shows on every corner.

Riverland will be open daily  from 10am to 1am daily with no entry charge !

Riverland Dubai will open along with Legoland Dubai on October 31, while Bollywood Parks and Legoland Water Park will open on November 15. The Hollywood-themed Motiongate will open on December 16.

Motiongate theme park – HUNGER GAMES ROLLERCOASTER

I am personally very excited about this Hollywood themed park with 27 attractions, including 5 rollercoasters.

motiongate dubai
Motiongate Park lay-out

The biggest and fastest is the Capitol Bullet Train coaster in Lion’s Gate-Hunger Game area.

It will be a launched rollercoaster which transports guests from District 12 to the Capitol via a super high-speed Capitol bullet train. Recreating life in Panem, visitors will be taken on a special tour flying through the Capitol with brand new footage shot especially for Dubai Parks and Resorts.

There will be also a second attraction based on the same movie. Indoor flight overlooking the world of Panem from on board a hovercraft – specially designed to replicate those in the film.

I could also see the Green Hornet coaster already being tested and train running on the track.

Dubai Parks and Resorts

DUBAI PARKS & RESORTS : Delayed openings – will it be worth the wait?

For the very first time, the opening of the major roads and bridges, allowing us to see the impressive scale of the soon to be open Dubai Parks and Resorts.

3 theme parks, 1 water park, outlet village and dining district will soon open to become the largest entertaining destination in the region.

“Read all about DPR in theme park section of my Blog – CLICK HERE

Unfortunately, not all of them will open on the 31st October as originally advertised. Find out dates for each park opening below, together with photos from the newly opened Outlet Village and amazing landscaping around the parks.

The Outlet Village just opened for business next to Legoland Park. San Gimignano town themed indoor retail venue sets a high standards of theming inside the parks themselves and looking at the faux Italian facades…we have a lot to be excited about.

But first thing first, the current scheduled opening date of each park is as follows :

  • 31st October        – Legoland Park + Riverland ( retails and dining area )
  • 15th November   – Bollywood Park + Legoland Waterpark + Lapita Hotel
  • 16th December   –  Motiongate Park

After contacting the parks, their response regarding  the delayed opening dates was…

“we want ensure that we deliver the very best and immersive experience of our guest. We are confident that, we will have a world-class experience filled with action-pack rides, attractions, live entertainment, dining and shopping  and more”

I guess, we have to wait and see 🙂

It’s not all about the parks, the roads, landscaping and beautifying works are in its final stage. It’s very impressive to see this huge amount of greenery planted around to transform desert into lush gardens.

The parks even has its own nursery with thousands of palm trees and plants!

DUBAI PARKS AND RESORTS : Construction Update

Less than 10 months to go and the highly anticipated theme park complex in Jebel Ali (near Dubai) will open its gates to the public and expects to welcome nearly 7mil. visitors in 2017 itself.

As I was passing by this morning, couldn’t miss the hectic construction activity. Main highway towards Abu Dhabi is diverted to make a space for a new bridges and access roads. Those huge hoarding walls are slowly disappearing to make a room for palm trees and many structures are growing up in the far distance.

I managed to take few photos with my phone, so you can get idea about the size of the area.                         ( I will try to take photos with professional camera next time to get some close-ups )

The nearest to the road is Motion Gate movie theme park with huge blue “Dreamworks” building accommodating indoor rides and shows. This “land” will host 27 rides and I am most excited about the Hunger Games rollercoaster.

Rajmahal theatre, centrepiece of Bollywood Land will seat 859 spectators to enjoy Bollywood themed show designed by Mumbai based TV production company Wizcraft which is already running a musical theatre in India.

As you can see from the photos, roads and junctions are taking shape and trees are being planted. Dubai Parks and Resort is planning to have more 16.00o trees, 1.5 mil shrubs and 6.100 palm trees. Cant’ wait to see the transformation from the desert to the green oasis.

As 10 months will fly by, I am expecting to see huge changes happening every month in Jebel Ali.

Stay tuned 🙂
